Remembering Maverick Flinn: A Bright Light Gone Too Soon
Four-year-old Maverick Flinn, known for his bright smile, toy tractors, and boundless energy, tragically died in a farming accident on June 23 in southern Indiana, alongside his beloved great-grandmother, Nancy Ann “Nanny” Fox.
Maverick had simply wanted to ride in the combine with his great-grandfather. After dismounting, a tragic accident involving a farm tractor claimed both his and Nancy’s lives.
The loss deeply shook the town of Seymour. Neighbors and fellow farmers rallied around the Flinn family—delivering meals and harvesting 12 days’ worth of wheat in just 24 hours. A GoFundMe campaign for a memorial playground in Maverick’s name has raised over $70,000.
Maverick was remembered as a joyful
spirit who loved the outdoors, monster trucks, soccer, and visiting his firefighter dad at the station. His great-grandmother Nancy, 68, was a devoted wife and farmer who found joy in fieldwork and porch views.
The Flinn family, deeply rooted in public service, is now promoting the “Maverick Minute,” urging farmers to take 60 seconds to check surroundings before using equipment—hoping to prevent similar tragedies.
“We’re going to continue on in his honor,” said uncle Zach Flinn. “We’re going to keep farming.”
