Queen Camilla’s sister speaks on King Charles’ marriage

King Charles and Queen Camilla have faced decades of public scrutiny and personal challenges. Their relationship began as an affair while both were married—Charles to Princess Diana and Camilla to Andrew Parker Bowles. Their romance sparked public backlash, especially after the release of the scandalous “Tampongate” tape and Charles and Diana’s divorce in 1996.

Camilla, once vilified by the public and shunned by parts of the Royal Family, spent years rebuilding her image. She was often isolated, afraid to leave her home due to intense media hostility. Charles eventually paid for her security before they married in 2005. Over time, Camilla slowly gained public respect, though not universal affection.

Her sister, Annabel Elliot, has been a quiet but constant source of support. The two were inseparable growing up and remained close throughout adulthood. Annabel has kept out of the spotlight but recently spoke out in the BBC documentary Charles III: The Coronation Year, calling Camilla “his rock” and praising their strong, balanced relationship.

Annabel played a key role during the coronation as Lady in Attendance, visibly moved seeing her sister crowned Queen. Though Camilla’s path to acceptance was long and fraught, she now stands as a respected royal figure, with her sister always by her side.
