Donald Trump didn’t hold back when asked about Greta Thunberg’s reported detainment by Israeli forces. In typical fashion, he mocked the climate activist, calling her “a young, angry person” who needs “anger management.”
The controversy erupted after Thunberg said she was “kidnapped” by Israeli forces while aboard a Gaza-bound humanitarian aid boat intercepted in international waters. The Israeli military confirmed it boarded the vessel, citing its blockade of Gaza.
In a video, Thunberg claimed, “We have been intercepted and kidnapped… by Israeli occupational forces.” Trump responded with disbelief: “I think Israel has enough problems without kidnapping Greta Thunberg.”
Thunberg and others aboard—including EU politician Rima Hassan and Al Jazeera’s Omar Faiad—are now facing deportation. The activists accuse Israel of blocking aid and committing “genocide” in Gaza, while Israel dismissed the voyage as a stunt, calling the vessel a “selfie yacht” and insisting passengers were treated humanely.
The incident comes amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over 54,000 people have reportedly died since the conflict intensified in October 2023.
