At 81, Robert De Niro is balancing fatherhood across generations—from his eldest, 57, to his youngest, Gia, now two. His parenting philosophy? Unconditional support.
“The main thing is to support your kids. As long as they’re not hurting themselves, you support them. Always,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
This comes shortly after his 29-year-old daughter, Airyn, came out as transgender in Them magazine. She described her public coming out as something that “felt right,” though it followed an article that outed and misgendered her without consent. Airyn, who’s long stayed out of the spotlight, expressed gratitude that her parents prioritized her privacy.
Despite initial nerves, she said De Niro responded with love. “I love and support Airyn as my daughter,” he said. “I love all my children.”
De Niro also shared his joy over baby Gia, his daughter with girlfriend Tiffany Chen: “She’s just pure joy.”
De Niro and Chen met on The Intern set in 2015 and confirmed their relationship in 2021. They quietly welcomed Gia, his seventh child, in 2023.
