Twenty-seven years ago, my brother Tommy abandoned his newborn son on my doorstep and disappeared. I raised Michael as my own, sacrificing everything for him. Now a successful lawyer, Michael visited for dinner recently, but there was always a distance—I was never truly “Mom” to him.
Then Tommy showed up, accusing me of stealing money he supposedly sent for Michael’s care. Michael confronted him, ultimately rejecting his lies and choosing me as his true parent. In a moment I’d longed for, he called me his real mother and thanked me for everything. To my surprise, he revealed he’d bought a house for my husband and me, a gesture that finally brought us closer.
